Leadership Institute
The Leadership Institute at Central Michigan University is a highly acclaimed and well-respected aspect of CMU. Since 1997, the Leadership Institute has provided students with the support and guidance to become the best version of themselves so that they can reach their full potential as a leader. Through organizing workshops and conferences to working with students more individually and one on one, the Leadership Institute helps you find all the tools and pathways to your definition of success and leadership.
Leader Advancement Scholarship
The Leader Advancement Scholarship is a scholarship presented and run through the Leadership Institute. The Leader Advancement Scholarship provides you with $2,000 each academic year, offering $8,000 total. To apply for the Leader Advancement Scholarship, you first have to fill out the application. The application allows you to show on paper your involvements in high school, your interests in high school, and your service throughout high school. From a pool of over 2,000 high school seniors, the Leadership Institute invites only 120 applicants to their annual competition. After the competition, only 80 students are offered the Leader Advancement Scholarship. On competition day, you are presented with a series of challenging leadership opportunities and activities. You also have the ability to talk with those in the cohort above you more about CMU and the Leader Advancement Scholarship. If you are fortunate to be chosen as a Leader Advancement Scholarship, you are placed in a group of 79 other amazing people who want to focus on bettering themselves and their leadership potential. Throughout your time spent at CMU, you have a set of protocol to complete to fulfill all scholarship requirements. Beyond that though, your focus is on your education and earning your degree, while your leadership skills are continually being developed.
